Hong Kong CNN —Nintendo says it plans to announce the followup to its popular Switch console by March 2025. “We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year,” Shuntaro Furukawa, the company’s president, wrote on X on Tuesday. “It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015.”The announcement will be welcome news to fans who have been salivating for years over the prospect of a potential Switch successor, which Nintendo bosses have remained tight lipped about. The company expects to sell 13.5 million Switch units in the current financial year, according to Reuters, compared to sales of 15.7 million units last year. Washington CNN —TikTok said Wednesday it would suspend a controversial program in the European Union that has prompted growing alarm among EU regulators. The program at issue appears within TikTok Lite, a less data-intensive version of TikTok’s main app, and which contains a feature that rewards users with cash for engaging with TikTok content and app features. “TikTok always seeks to engage constructively with the EU Commission and other regulators,” TikTok said in a post on X. “We are therefore voluntarily suspending the rewards functions in TikTok Lite while we address the concerns that they have raised.”The EU warnings to TikTok reflected an exercise of new oversight powers granted by the Digital Services Act, the trading bloc’s recently enacted law governing online platforms. Oct 30 (Reuters) - Lumentum Holdings (LITE.O) said on Monday it would buy Hong Kong-based Cloud Light Technology for about $750 million, as the networking equipment maker looks to capitalize on growing demand for cloud computing. Cloud Light, which makes fiber optic equipment and automotive sensors, is expected to expand Lumentum's opportunities in the cloud data center and networking infrastructure space. Cloud Light, which was spun off from Japanese electronic components manufacturer TDK (6762.T) in 2018, generated about $200 million in revenue over the last year, Lumentum added. Lumentum intends to finance the transaction, expected to close by the end of this year, through cash from its balance sheet. At the time of closing, the transaction amount would be paid in cash and the assumption and substitution of outstanding unvested Cloud Light options.

New York CNN —Bud Light might be experiencing a knockout of its own, but this time it’s on purpose. The multiyear sponsorship, which begins on January 1, 2024, makes Bud Light the “official beer partner” of the UFC, with the beer branding having a “highly visible presence” during fights and weigh-ins. The new agreement is a reunion for Bud Light and the UFC, after a previous sponsorship ended in 2017. Bud Light replaces Modelo as UFC’s beer sponsor, the Mexican lager that has dethroned Bud Light from its title of America’s top-selling beer. Sales of Bud Light are still sinking, with volumes down 30% year-over-year for the four weeks ending on October 7, according to NIQ data given to Beer Business Daily newsletter.
